ABOUT THE CHUKWU OCTUPLETS.

The Chukwu Octuplets (born in December 1998 in Houston, Texas) to mom Nkem Chukwu and dad Iyke Louis were the first set of octuplets born in the United States. The smallest of the octuplets, Odera, died a week after birth.
  • Chukwuebuka Nkemjika (Ebuka) - Girl, weighed 690g (22 oz.) at birth
  • Chidinma Anulika (Chidi) - Girl, weighed 760g (24.4 oz.) at birth
  • Chinecherem Nwabugwu (Echerem) - Girl, weighed 800g (25.7 oz.) at birth
  • Chimaijem Otito (Chima) - Girl, weighed 730g (23.5 oz.) at birth
  • Chijindu Chidera (Odera) - Girl, weighed 320g (10.3 oz.) at birth R.I.P
  • Chukwubuikem Maduabuchi (Ikem) - Boy, weighed 500g (16.0 oz.) at birth
  • Chijioke Chinedum (Jioke) - Boy, weighed 810g (26.0 oz.) at birth
  • Chinagorom Chidiebere (Gorom) - Girl, weighed 520g (16.7 oz.) at birth

The first of the octuplets, Ebuka, was born on December 8, 15 weeks premature. The remainder were born by Caesarean section on December 20, 13 weeks premature. The smallest of the octuplets, Odera, died on December 27, a week after birth.

Within a month of being born, all remaining 7 babies were breathing independently without any support from oxygen. A few years ago The Houston Chronicle did an update on the family and reported that the 7 babies were thriving and growing like normal children.

In 2002, Nkem Chukwu delivered a daughter named Divine Favour, this time without the help of medication. She is called "Favour" as Chukwu believed that God did her a favor by giving her back the daughter she lost after the octuplets' birth. Favour is usually seen in public dressed like her siblings forming an 8-member octuplet brood.

Woman delivers sextuplets • First in Nigeria.

Above are the Harris sextuplets who are the first Afro-American sextuplets in the U.S

NIGERIA recorded the birth of its first set of sextuplets on Saturday at the Olabisi Onabanjo Teaching Hospital (OOTH), Sagamu, when a woman, Mrs Amuda Ajoke Bello, aged 32, gave birth to the babies around 4.00am. Speaking with Sunday Tribune, the Chairman, Board of Directors of the Teaching Hospital, Professor Femi Ajayi, said the woman was delivered of the babies through caesarean section around 4.00am on Saturday by two doctors.

Professor Ajayi disclosed that the woman had two kids before the recent delivery. The babies, three boys and three girls, who are under intensive care unit at the hospital, weighed between 650, 600, 850, while the three others weigh 900 grams respectively. The woman, who hails from Ijebu Igbo, in Ogun State, is said to be in stable condition. Professor Ajayi attri-buted the feat and the success of the birth to “pure professionalism.”

This was the first time the nation would be recording this highest birth as four were delivered at one hospital in Minna, Niger State, last year. The father, a battery charger, was said to have fled when he received the news. The Ogun State Commissioner for Health, Dr.Mrs Abiodun Oduwole was on ground to see the mother and the children. The management of the Hospital has decided to take care of the medical bill in a bid to lessen the burden of the parents of the sextuplets.

That is my country. OMG, the father fled probably due to the poverty issue.

OCTUPLETS GRANDFATHER TO APPEAR ON OPRAH THIS TUESDAY 24TH FEBRUARY 2009.

Photo via Harpo Productions

Ed Doud, the father of California octuplet mom Nadya Suleman, has done his first nationally televised interview – with Oprah Winfrey.

During the exclusive chat, Doud reveals how he found out about his daughter’s pregnancy, how the family is coping – and also sheds a few tears about the situation.

"You know, she needs help," he tells Winfrey, defending the Web site that was recently launched to support her 14 children. "I say to everybody now, people, we do need help. Do not punish my daughter for what she had done and do not punish the babies, because they were given by God."

Doud doesn't mince words when addressing his daughter's decision to carry eight babies to term, calling Suleman, 33, and the fertility specialist who implanted six embryos in her womb "absolutely irresponsible."

Suleman has faced even more scrutiny since it was revealed that she supports her large family, in part, with the help of food stamps.

The babies' grandfather maintains caring for Suleman's 14 children will be a family affair. His greatest hope? "To stay healthy … and to have my grandchildren – all of them – to be healthy, and the mother to finish her schooling and start working," he says. "We all could support this family."

Dr. Mehmet Oz, a frequent contributor on Winfrey’s show, also joins Doud and the talk show host in the episode to discuss the ethics behind the actions of the fertility specialist and Suleman.

The first thing you notice when you walk into their six-bedroom home, which was donated to them all those years ago, is how much it’s run like a business. The childrens’ grandmother earned the nickname “Commander in Chief” because she lives with them and she keeps the household running smoothly. I watched as she ordered them all to clean their plates after dinner. She also developed a color-coded system to make getting ready for school easier. They all wear the same color every day of the week. They wear red on Monday, maroon on Tuesday, yellow on Wednesday and it goes on from there."

HERE IS THE STORY OUR HOMETOWN TV STATION KHOU-TV DID ABOUT US ON SUNDAY FEB 15TH 2009.

Ever since she gave birth to octuplets last month, a California mother and her babies have been blinded by the media glare. Not all of the news has been good. Many people feel the unemployed mother, who already has six kids, should not have used fertility treatments to have more babies.

Ten years ago, the country’s first set of octuplets were born in Houston. 11 News asked the Chukwu family to weigh in on the California case. The Chukwu kids, who live in League City, are now in fourth grade.

“We pray for her every day. We love her. We love them. We love the kids. We pray for her,” Nkem Louis said of the California multiples’ mom.

“The kids are here, they need help. Their mother can be talked about, but those kids need help like ours. We had an army of volunteers,” Iyke Louis said.

The Chukwu octuplets, who pray at least three times a day, have included the West Coast multiples in their prayer points.

“We’ve been praying for their health and praying for them to survive,” Echerem Chukwu said.

They’ve also offered some advice to the babies: Share with your siblings and don’t fight. Read the rest....

Search Intensifies for Missing 3-Year-Old Arkansas Boy.

Officials intensified their search Saturday for a 3-year-old boy who vanished from his home in Arkansas, but turned up no leads.

An Amber Alert was issued for the child, Dominick Wesley Arceneaux, when his mother reported him missing from the backyard of their Ouachita County, Ark., mobile home on Tuesday evening.

Local, state and federal agents, along with members of the National Guard and volunteers, have joined the hunt for the boy — but without success.

Sheriff David Norwood said Friday afternoon there was still no hint of what may have happened to the toddler.

"We're following anything we can," Norwood said. "It would be different if we knew he'd been kidnapped, where you can take your efforts away from searching the lake, searching the woods. You could focus on finding a car or whatever other clues were available." Read more......

HEALTHY FAMILY TIP: WHAT IS AN AMBER ALERT?

http://mylifeofcrime.files.wordpress.com/2007/07/amber-hagerman.jpg

An AMBER Alert is a child abduction alert bulletin in the United States and Canada, as well as other countries, issued upon the suspected abduction of a child. AMBER is officially a backronym for "America's Missing: Broadcasting Emergency Response" but was originally named for Amber Hagerman, a 9-year-old child who was abducted and murdered in Arlington, Texas in 1996. Exceptions are in Georgia, where it is called "Levi's Call", Hawaii, where it is called a "Maile Amber Alert", and Arkansas, where it is called a "Morgan Nick Amber Alert" Those plans were named after children who went missing in those states.

AMBER Alerts are distributed via commercial radio stations, satellite radio, television stations, and cable TV by the Emergency Alert System (where they are termed "Child Abduction Emergency"), as well as via e-mail, electronic traffic-condition signs, the LED billboards which are located outside of newer Walgreens locations, along with the LED/LCD signs of billboard companies such as Clear Channel Outdoor, CBS Outdoor and Lamar, and wireless device SMS text messages. Those interested in subscribing to receive AMBER Alerts in their area via SMS messages can visit Wireless Amber Alerts, which are offered by law as free messages. In some states, the display scrollboards in front of lottery terminals are also used. The decision to declare an AMBER Alert is made by the police organization investigating the abduction. Public information in an AMBER Alert usually consists of the name and description of the abductee, a description of the suspected abductor, and a description and license plate number of the abductor's vehicle, if available.

The U.S. Department of Justice issues the following "guidance", which most states are said to "adhere closely to":
  1. Law enforcement must confirm that an abduction has taken place.
  2. The child must be at risk of serious injury or death.
  3. There must be sufficient descriptive information of child, captor, or captor's vehicle to issue an alert.
  4. The child must be 17 years old or younger.

Publicists for octuplets' mother quit over death threats.

Two Brentwood publicists said they dropped octuplets mom Nadya Suleman as a client Saturday because they have received a slew of death threats.

Suleman, a 33-year-old Whittier resident, was unmarried, unemployed and already had six children using a sperm donor when she gave birth to eight children from the same donor Jan. 26 at Kaiser Permanente Medical Center in Bellflower.

Joann Killeen, president of Killeen Furtney Group, said she and husband Mike Furtney decided to drop Suleman early Saturday. Soon after the births, the couple began representing Suleman for free, and almost immediately started receiving threatening e-mails and phone calls from people enraged over the octuplets saga, she said.

"They hope I die, they hope my business goes under, they want to rip her uterus out," Killeen said. "They say I should be anesthetized and put down like a dog."

Killeen said she and Suleman felt so threatened that last week they stayed at an undisclosed "secure location" for a few days before returning home. The babies are still being treated at the hospital, Killeen said.

After creating a website for Suleman on Tuesday, Killeen said, she received 55,000 e-mails, most of them negative, and she has stacks of angry mail.

Killeen said she and her husband became afraid enough to send their dogs to a kennel. On Friday, they contacted the Los Angeles Police Department, and officers told them that the threats were the worst they had seen since the O.J. Simpson case, Killeen said.

"The American public have just lashed out," she said. "I think it has to do with the economy, healthcare -- there's not a lot of jobs, people are unemployed and are trying to take care of their families."

Suleman has hired the Franklin, Tenn.-based Ambassador Agency Inc. to arrange a book deal and manage her appearances, Killeen said.

Ambassador represented an Iowa couple who had sextuplets in 1995 and the Rev. Rick Warren, pastor of Saddleback Valley Community Church in Lake Forest, who spoke at President Obama's inauguration. The agency's president, Wes Yoder, did not return phone calls Saturday.

Octuplets doctor has another patient expecting quadruplets.

http://www.uihealthcare.com/depts/med/pediatrics/gazettequads/dec031.jpg
Photo: (Gazette photo by David Lee Hartlage) The Grady Quadruplets (now 11 years old)

Three reporters at the L.A Times are reporting that the patient, who is in her late 40s, wanted one baby. Dr. Michael Kamrava transferred at least seven embryos to her. She is now hospitalized without insurance. A few months after Dr. Michael Kamrava helped Nadya Suleman become pregnant with octuplets, he transferred at least seven embryos to another patient.

She was in her late 40s and wanted just one baby.
Now she's five months pregnant with quadruplets and hospitalized at Los Angeles County-USC Medical Center, according to several sources familiar with the situation.

The new case could add to concerns about Kamrava's practice and about whether the fertility industry needs more regulation.

In fertility medicine, any pregnancy greater than twins is considered a poor outcome because of the danger it poses to the mother and the babies. Quadruplet births are rare, with an average of 14 sets born in California each year, according to state records.

"Historically, we have been very hesitant to regulate anything close to procreation from parents making judgments about how many children they will have and when," said Kirk O. Hanson, ethics professor and executive director of the Markkula Center for Applied Ethics at Santa Clara University.

"However, that worked under a natural process of fertilization and incubation. There are serious questions about whether it works in an era of scientifically enhanced procreation."

The woman in the latest case arrived recently at Good Samaritan Hospital in Los Angeles for unspecified treatment but was transferred last week to County-USC Medical Center because she lacks insurance. Doctors placed her on bed rest until the birth of the babies, which could be two or three months from now.

The California Medical Board has said it is looking into the octuplets' case to determine whether a doctor may have violated any standards of care. Read more...

Police to Investigate Threats to Octuplet Mom.

NADYA SULEMAN --THE FINAL MONTH...................

TMZ has just released this picture of Nadya Suleman a week before she gave birth on January 26th 2009. WOW! Brings back some memories.....

Octuplet case sparks calls for fertility-industry curbs.

At first, the world celebrated Nadya Suleman's octuplets as a medical miracle. But reaction to the Jan. 26 births quickly devolved from ballyhoo to backlash after the public learned that she had six other children through in vitro fertilization and was living on welfare.

Ethicists, medical providers and average citizens are asking why any physician would help Suleman, a single mother in Whittier, have that many children. Some said the case is evidence that the nation's $3 billion, self-regulated fertility industry needs government oversight.

“This case is an example of fertility services run amok,” said Lori Andrews, director of the Institute for Science, Law and Technology at the Illinois Institute of Technology in Chicago.

But others, including many fertility doctors who readily concede the octuplets case defies medical guidelines and common sense, insist it is an aberration.

The first octuplets in the United States were born in 1998, also through in vitro fertilization.

“This doesn't happen very often. It shouldn't ever happen. But one has to be careful not to be reactionary to something that happens once a decade,” said Dr. Sanjay Agarwal of the Suleman octuplets. He is a clinical professor of reproductive medicine and director of fertility services at the University of California San Diego. Read the rest.......

MEMORIES AND HISTORY TRIVIA.

The Mandy Allwood Octuplets and the $2 million media deal promised to her. A good read. Double click article to enlarge.

Taxpayers may have to cover octuplet mom's costs.

A big share of the financial burden of raising Nadya Suleman's 14 children could fall on the shoulders of California's taxpayers, compounding the public furor in a state already billions of dollars in the red.

Even before the 33-year-old single, unemployed mother gave birth to octuplets last month, she had been caring for her six other children with the help of $490 a month in food stamps, plus Social Security disability payments for three of the youngsters. The public aid will almost certainly be increased with the new additions to her family.

Also, the hospital where the octuplets are expected to spend seven to 12 weeks has requested reimbursement from Medi-Cal, the state's Medicaid program, for care of the premature babies, according to the Los Angeles Times. The cost has not been disclosed.

Word of the public assistance has stoked the furor over Suleman's decision to have so many children by having embryos implanted in her womb.

"It appears that, in the case of the Suleman family, raising 14 children takes not simply a village but the combined resources of the county, state and federal governments," Los Angeles Times columnist Tim Rutten wrote in Wednesday's paper. He called Suleman's story "grotesque."

On the Internet, bloggers rained insults on Suleman, calling her an "idiot," criticizing her decision to have more children when she couldn't afford the ones she had and suggesting she be sterilized.

"It's my opinion that a woman's right to reproduce should be limited to a number which the parents can pay for," Charles Murray wrote in a letter to the Los Angeles Daily News. "Why should my wife and I, as taxpayers, pay child support for 14 Suleman kids?"

She was also berated on talk radio, where listeners accused her of manipulating the system and being an irresponsible mother.

"From the outside you can tell that this woman was playing the system," host Bryan Suits said on the "Kennedy and Suits" show on KFI-AM. "You're damn right the state should step in and seize the kids and adopt them out."

Suleman's spokesman, Mike Furtney, urged understanding.

"I would just ask people to consider her situation and she has been under a tremendous amount of pressure that no one could be prepared for," Furtney said.

Furtney said he, Suleman and her family had received death threats and had been getting messages that were "disgusting things that would never be proper to put in any story." Read more at the AP website...

What a cute baby named Maliyah up there! Please absolutely refrain from death threats as that is against the law!

OUR HEALTHY FAMILY TIP: WHAT IS THE AUTISM?

Autism is a brain development disorder characterized by impaired social interaction and communication, and by restricted and repetitive behavior. These signs all begin before a child is three years old. The autism spectrum disorders (ASD) also include related conditions with milder signs and symptoms.

Autism affects many parts of the brain; how this occurs is not understood. Parents usually notice signs in the first two years of their child's life. Although early behavioral or cognitive intervention can help children gain self-care, social, and communication skills, there is no known cure. Few children with autism live independently after reaching adulthood, but some become successful, and an autistic culture has developed, with some seeking a cure and others believing that autism is a condition rather than a disorder. Octuplet Mom Impregnated by Beverly Hills Fertility Doctor.

Suleman Octuplets courtesy of NBC

The mother of octuplets was implanted with those embryos at a Beverly Hills fertility clinic run by a well-known — and controversial — specialist who pioneered a method of implantation.

Dr. Michael Kamrava's name emerged Monday as a result of an interview aired Monday on NBC with Nadya Suleman, who gave birth to eight babies Jan. 26.

Kamrava, 57, would not comment on the issue, but told reporters outside his clinic on Rodeo Drive that he had granted an interview to one of the television networks. When asked to provide more detail, he said, "Watch the news."

Without identifying the doctor, the Medical Board of California said last week it was looking into the Suleman case to see if there was a "violation of the standard of care." The medical board said Monday it has not taken any disciplinary action against Kamrava in the past.

Suleman told NBC that she does not intend to go on welfare, though her publicist confirmed Monday that Suleman already receives food stamps and child disability payments to help feed and care for her six other children.

Suleman's publicist Mike Furtney said she receives $490 a month in food stamps. Three of Suleman's previous children are disabled, Furtney said, but Suleman did not want to disclose the nature of the disabilities, or the type or sum of the payments.

"In her view these are just payments made for people with legitimate needs and are not, in her view, welfare," Furtney said. "She just believes that there are programs for people with needs and she and her children qualify for some of them."

We will continue to keep Nadya and her children in our prayers.

OUR HEALTHY FAMILY TIP: WHAT IS THE FOOD STAMP PROGRAM?

http://www.diabetesdiabeticdiet.com/images/food_pyramid.JPG

I heard that many people often confuse food stamps as "welfare" per say. After my research, I discovered that sometimes someone may not be on welfare and actually receive food stamps as part of the SSI disability program. Those individuals are automatically eligible for food stamps. If you receive Food Stamps, I encourage you to use them wisely and purchase foods in the above food groups especially towards the bottom. Below is an explanation of what food stamps are. I shall be educating you about our Health Families Tour periodically.

The US Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, historically and commonly known as the Food Stamp Program, is a federal assistance program that provides food to low and no income people living in the United States. Benefits are distributed by the individual states, but the program is administered through the U.S. Department of Agriculture.

Most food stamp benefits are now distributed using cards but for most of its history the program had actually used paper denominational stamps/coupons worth $1, $5, and $10. These stamps could be used to purchase any prepackaged edible foods regardless of nutritional value (for example soft drinks and confectionery could be purchased on food stamps).

In the late 1990s, the food stamp program was revamped and actual stamps were phased out in favor of a specialized debit card system known as Electronic Benefit Transfer (EBT) provided by private contractors. Many states merged the use of the EBT card for public assistance welfare programs as well.

The purpose of the Food Stamp Program as laid out in its implementation was to assist low-income households in obtaining adequate and nutritious diets. According to Rossi, “the program rests on the assumption that households with restricted incomes may skimp on food purchases and live on diets that are inadequate in quantity and quality, or, alternatively skimp on other necessities to maintain an adequate diet”.

Food stamps, as many like Rossi, MacDonald and Eisinger contend, are used not only for increasing food but also as income maintenance. Income Maintenance basically is the money that household would have spent on food that they no longer have to; since households no longer have to spend this money on food, they can spend it on other things. The FSP is meant solely to increase food purchases, not to act as a tool of income maintenance.

According to various studies shown by Rossi, because of income maintenance only about $0.17-$0.47 more is being spent on food for every food stamp dollar than was spent prior to individuals receiving food stamps
Nutritional improvement

Another benefit sometimes attributed to the Food Stamp Program is that it makes nutritious food more readily available.

According to the National Food Consumption Survey individuals in food stamp households do not differ significantly from those living in non-recipient households in the nutritional quality of the food eaten. As a result, Rossi argues that this objective is not being met.

SULEMAN OCTUPLETS MAKE THEIR WORLD TELEVISION DEBUT.

Maliah, Noah, Jonah, Isaiah, Nariah, Jeremiah, McCai and Josiah made their TV debut today.

The octuplets, born two weeks ago, were introduced to an expectant world by their mother, 33-year-old Nadya Suleman.

Guiding the TV cameras through the hospital wards where the babies are likely to remain for several weeks, Suleman placed a hand on each tiny head and said a few words in a sing-song voice. "Hi, Maliah, your eyes are open," she said to the first.

"Hi, Josiah," she continued. "I wish I could stay all day long, but I can't. Your brothers and sisters at home want to see you ... I can't wait until they're all together. We are not a whole family."

The size of her whole family has become an issue in recent days, replacing the celebratory tone that was struck when the births were announced.

Suleman, who is a single and living with her parents, already has six children. All 14 have been conceived using in vitro fertilization, all with sperm from the same donor.

As medical ethicists have questioned the role of the clinic that implanted the embryos, others have pointed to the cost of the births and the troubles, both financial and medical, that may lie ahead for the family.

Suleman denied that taxpayers were footing the bill for her children. "I'm not receiving help from the government," she told NBC. "I'm not trying to expect anything from anybody. I just wanted to do it on my own. Any resources that someone would really, really want to help us, I will accept, I would embrace.

"I will feed them. I will do the best I possibly can," Suleman continued. "And in my own way, in my own faith, I do believe wholeheartedly that God will provide in his own way."

She also denied that she had the octuplets to make money. "That's funny how untrue that is," Suleman said. "Money? Money is necessary to raise children. But it's - it's paper. It is paper. To me, it is superfluous in contrast to the importance of my kids."

During the interview, Suleman identified the clinic that had treated her as the West Coast IVF Clinic in Beverly Hills, California. The same clinic helped her conceive her previous children.

The sperm donor remains anonymous, although Suleman said that he was shocked by the birth of the octuplets.

California Medical Board Probes Octuplet Birth.

The fertility doctor who helped a California woman have 14 children, including octuplets born last month, is facing a state investigation and harsh criticism from medical ethicists.

The Medical Board of California did not identify the doctor who helped Nadya Suleman, 33, of Whittier become pregnant with the six boys and two girls born on Jan. 26., despite already having six other children.

"We're looking into the matter to see if we can substantiate if there was a violation of the standard of care," said board spokeswoman Candis Cohen.

Suleman, a divorced single mother, told NBC's "Today" show that the same fertility specialist provided in-vitro fertilization for all 14 of her children. Read more on FOX News.com

NADYA SULEMAN SPEAKS OUT ON NBC'S TODAY SHOW.

After managing to avoid reporters as she left the hospital Thursday morning, Nadya Suleman headed for her first interview, with Ann Curry of NBC's "Today" show. One of the octuplets mother's hastily hired publicists said she is staying at "an undisclosed location" while she considers offers including possible book and TV deals.

NBC News spokeswoman Megan Kopf said Suleman was not paid for the interview. An air-date announcement was expected later Thursday.

Not even a photo of Suleman has emerged and public records shed little light on her. The 33-year-old single mother, who now has 14 children under the age of 8, has used different names over the years and has been married and divorced once. She stated in the interview...

"I just longed for certain connections and attachments with another person that I really lacked, I believe, growing up," she says.

Asked what she felt she lacked, she says, "Feeling of self and identity. I didn't feel as though, when I was a child, I had much control of my environment. I felt powerless. And that gave me a sense of predictability. Reflecting back on my childhood, I know it wasn't functional. It was pretty, pretty dysfunctional, and whose isn't?"

QUOTE OF THE DAY.......CNN TALK SHOW HOST LARRY KING.

"Look at that, see this, they're born 8 one died, look how they've grown up. There's hope for everybody including the kids here in L.A"....Larry King after interviewing the parents of the Chukwu Octuplets on 2/2/09 on his iconic Larry King Live show.

Larry said they have a 7-year old sister. Favor is actually six years old but has grown big enough to be as big as the octuplets. She is sitting second from the right in the first row.

BELLFLOWER OCTUPLETS MOM NADYA SULEMAN'S PUBLICIST SPEAKS ON LARRY KING 2/3/09

The Publicist for the Bellflower octuplets mom Nadya Suleman speaks about the so called "Octuplet outrage", the rumors about her intentions of cashing in on her 14 babies. This is a very good interview! It sets the record straight from Publicist Joann Killeen. Killeen clarified every single rumor out there.

Octuplets Mom Not Getting Showered With Gifts reports the AP.

The AP reports......Where is the lifetime supply of diapers, formula and baby wipes? The free van? The brand-new house?

Women who give birth to six, seven or eight babies are often showered with dazzling gifts from big corporations, local businesses and strangers. But that is not happening with the Southern California mother who delivered octuplets last week.

The news that she is a single mother with six other children — and that all 14 were conceived by having embryos implanted — seems to have turned off many people, and companies are not exactly rushing to get publicity by piling on the freebies.

Nadya Suleman, 33, has been lambasted by talk-show hosts, fertility experts, even her own mother, who has her hands full taking care of Suleman's other children, ages 2 to 7.

A veteran Hollywood publicist said Suleman's handlers have their work cut out for them in trying to win public sympathy for her.

"I think it's a calamity," said publicist David Brokaw, who has handled crises for celebrities. "I don't see, the way this is shaped, how you can say much about it in terms of something favorable."

Makers of diapers, formula and other products would probably want to steer clear of her, Brokaw said. He suggested she lie low for now and concentrate on crafting an image as a responsible parent.

Gerber spokesman David Mortazavi said that if the baby-food maker was planning to do something for the family, it probably would have done it already, and that the octuplets' birth was not on Gerber's radar. He would not elaborate.

Procter & Gamble spokeswoman Tricia Higgins said that the maker of Pampers does not actively seek out parents to sponsor, but that the octuplets' mother can ask for what is typically provided in multiple births: a jumbo pack of diapers for each child, baby wipes, and coupons for discounts. That is unlikely to last Suleman a week.

Conservative radio talk show host Bill Handel in Los Angeles, who has branded the births "freakish," said on the air Tuesday that people ready to boycott any corporations that help the octuplets or their mother.

Suleman's spokesman Mike Furtney said that he has received some "fairly negative" comments from the public but that offers to help with the babies have come in from nurses, and some baby stores have stepped forward to volunteer their support.

"I don't remember the brand name, but one major disposable diaper company sent some diapers," he said. Furtney said he was confident that once Suleman tells her story, many of her critics will "readjust their thinking a little."

Furtney said Suleman has had offers for TV and other media deals, but he added it was too early to discuss how much money she might receive.

For a single mother, the cost of raising 14 children through age 17 ranges from $1.3 million to $2.7 million through age 17, according to the U.S. Department of Agriculture.

The Suleman octuplets' medical costs have not been disclosed, but the average cost for just one cesarean birth in 2006 was $22,762 in California. The Suleman babies were born nine weeks premature. In California, a single premature birth in 2006 led to an average hospital stay of 25 days and cost $164,273. That would amount to a $1.3 million bill for eight.

Suleman's income is unclear. She was employed by a mental hospital from 1997 through 2008.

Nasty callers dominated the phone lines in the first few days after the octuplets were born at Kaiser Permanente Bellflower Medical Center.

"We heard a lot of outrage because there was a vacuum of information and people were going on rumor and conjecture," said hospital spokeswoman Socorro Serrano.

But calls of encouragement, particularly from mothers of multiples, have also poured in, along with offers of hand-me-downs and tips, Serrano said.

In 1998, Nkem Chukwu of Houston became the first mother to give birth to octuplets in the U.S. The family lives in a donated, six-bedroom suburban home, and the stay-at-home mom had a small army of volunteers help feed and care for the seven surviving babies for the first few years.

The parents of the McCaughey septuplets — seven babies born in Iowa in 1997 — received a donated 16-room house, a 15-passenger van, baby food from Gerber, and a lifetime supply of Pampers from Procter & Gamble.

The stars of The Learning Channel's reality show "Jon and Kate Plus 8," about a couple with sextuplets and twins, are paid, and have received a slew of freebies through the show, including trips to Hawaii and New York, a tummy tuck for Mom and hair plugs for Dad.

TLC President Eileen O'Neill said production companies that work with TLC have already made offers to Suleman's family, but the network is waiting to see how TV-friendly the family is.

"We're certainly like the rest of America; we're waiting to see how this develops," O'Neill said. "The number of children or scale of the multiples is intriguing, but it also comes down to what are the family's lives like?"

Octuplets’ mother wants Oprah to turn her into a $2m TV star.

This story surfaced in a British newspaper today.

The single mother of octuplets born in California last week is seeking $2m from media interviews and commercial sponsorship to help pay the cost of raising the children.

Nadya Suleman, 33, plans a career as a television childcare expert after it emerged last week that she already had six children before giving birth on Monday. She now has 14 below the age of eight.

Although still confined to an LA hospital bed, she intends to talk to two influential television hosts this week — media mogul Oprah Winfrey, and Diane Sawyer, who presents Good Morning America.

Her family has told agents she needs cash from deals such as nappy sponsorship — she will get through 250 a week in the next few months — and the agents will gauge public reaction to her story.

Her earning power, though, could be diminished by a growing ethical and medical controversy. Experts believe that the unnamed fertility specialists who gave her in vitro fertilisation (IVF) should not have implanted so many embryos, and in choosing to carry all eight to term, Suleman ignored guidelines, risking both their health and her own.

US public reaction has been mixed: many have asked how an unemployed single mother can raise 14 children, as her first six have already strained the family budget. Angela and Ed Suleman, Nadya’s parents, bought her a two-bedroom bungalow in the suburb of Whittier in March 2007, but soon after got into debt and had to leave their own home.

They filed for bankruptcy and moved in with their daughter and grandchildren. Last week her father said he would return to his native Iraq to work as a translator and driver.

Angela Suleman, who is caring for the first six children — one of whom is autistic — while her daughter is in hospital, said yesterday that she had consulted a psychologist over Nadya’s “obsession with children”.

Nadya Suleman, who describes herself as a “professional student” living off education grants and parental money, broke up with her boyfriend before the birth of her first child seven years ago.

The identity of the octuplets’ father remains unknown, but local reports suggest they were conceived with frozen sperm donated by a friend she met while working at a fertility clinic. He is the father of her twins, born two years ago.

This was released to the media today via our Publicist and I did an interview with CNN Radio, CNN Newswire and CNN.com earlier in the day.

Last week, the world media learned that the mother of the new Bellflower Octuplets Nadya Suleman already had six other children including the fact that one of the older ones was autistic and that she allegedly went through in vitro fertilization to conceive each of her children. In addition it was reported that Ms Suleman filed bankruptcy, lives with her own parents as a single mom and also was quoted by her own mom Angela Suleman as being “obsessed with kids.” The mom of the 10-year old Chukwu octuplets, Nkem pronounced (In-Kem) now wants to respond with a statement on this issue.

Below is the full statement….

“In light of the Bellflower mom, Nadya Suleman’s story, I made it clear on NBC’s TODAY show that the upcoming Chukwu Octuplets world tour will be promoting HEALTHY FAMILIES. As a mother of Octuplets, the focus should now be on the care of the new babies so as to raise them in a healthy environment physically, psychologically, mentally and emotionally. There has been too much speculation on the internet however everyone is entitled to their opinion. We would not be here without our army of volunteers. They remain in our prayers in getting a support system for building a healthy family.”

THE CHUKWU OCTUPLETS CONGRATULATE THE SUPERBOWL CHAMPIONS!

Did you know that the Octuplets are Steeler's fans? Our house was crazy last nite. OMG, the kids especially the boys were freaking out during that last 2 minutes of the game when Arizona scored! Kate Gosselin Offers Parenting Tips to New Mom of Octuplets.

http://www.arabamericannews.com/news/images/articles/2008_04/965/u1_GosselinJonKate.gif
From one mother of several children to another, the Gosselin matriarch shares with PEOPLE her eight tips for raising eight kids under one roof:

• You must have help – accept it. It can be very difficult especially for someone like myself who likes to be in total control. That will continue until your kids are grown!

• Schedule, Schedule, Schedule – create a schedule very early on and stick to it. Kids like a routine, and for me it removed the guesswork. (Are kids hungry? Are they tired? etc.)

• Choose your battles – let little things go! You can't control everything.

• Make every moment count – use the time you are wiping their hands and face or changing a diaper to connect.

• Plan ahead – think the plan through and find pitfalls ... Change accordingly.

• Encourage teamwork – it gets the job done faster and more efficiently while fostering a deep family bond. (Involve kids in chores – it develops a strong work ethic.)

• Save and spend smart – lots of kids means lots of saving is necessary! Use coupons, buy in bulk, watch for sales! It's a must!!

• Above all, take a few minutes for yourself ... Don't let mommy guilt get to you. Even if it's just a 10-minute shower, which at the beginning seems like a luxury.

HAPPY BLACK HISTORY MONTH!!!

Photo courtesy of Keminications Media (Back cover of Mrs Coretta Scott King's 2006 funeral pamphlet)

For one, I am the first black woman in history to have eight live babies in the world, so that makes me history and as a matter of fact, the first woman PERIOD! LOL!

Black History Month is a remembrance of important people and events in the history of the African diaspora. It is celebrated annually in the United States and Canada in the month of February, while in the UK it is held in the month of October.

The remembrance was originated in 1926 by historian Carter G. Woodson as "Negro History Week". Woodson chose the second week of February because it marked the birthdays of two Americans who greatly influenced the lives and social condition of African Americans: former President Abraham Lincoln and abolitionist Frederick Douglass. Woodson also founded the Association for the Study of Negro Life and History, now the Association for the Study of African American Life and History.

Let your children regardless of race learn what it's about and the achievements of black people. We have a black President Barack Obama now as well as a black Republican leader Michael Steeles. Many new developments! Download the picture above and give it to your kids. R.I.P Mrs King and Yolanda King.

OUCH! Having More Than 2 Kids Will Destroy Planet, Environmentalist Says..

Couples who have more than two children are being “irresponsible” by creating an unbearable burden on the environment, the British government’s green adviser warned.

Jonathon Porritt, who chairs the government’s Sustainable Development Commission, says curbing population growth through contraception and abortion must be at the heart of policies to fight global warming. He says political leaders and green campaigners should stop dodging the issue of environmental harm caused by an expanding population.

A report by the commission, to be published next month, will say that governments must reduce population growth through better family planning.

“I am unapologetic about asking people to connect up their own responsibility for their total environmental footprint and how they decide to procreate and how many children they think are appropriate,” Porritt said.

“I think we will work our way towards a position that says that having more than two children is irresponsible. It is the ghost at the table. We have all these big issues that everybody is looking at and then you don’t really hear anyone say the “p” word.”

I guess I've destroyed the planet already heh? Calling all moms with >2 kids. We're in trouble now with mother nature! LOL! Leave me a message below in the comments field.
